Gemini and CGI hosting

So, in my head I've been noodling on the idea of writing a server. I don't understand at all the 10 response, I assume it's supposed to be this cgi business, because i don't see anywhere where a .gmi page can prompt the user. Is that true? Either way, could someone point me to a simple example? (I am running jetforce right now, if that helps)
