Firefox Add-on protocol schema

Firefox has a hard-coded list of schemas that extensions are allowed to 
handle without the web+
or webext+ prefix. I believe gopher can be handled this way.

Has anyone got in touch or created an issue to add gemini to this list? 
While it defeats the purpose
of having a separate protocol and document format, it would be good to 
make all the gemini:// links
work in Firefox.
